The MAB Visit and the Fraknói Research Group

On 7–8 October 2026, the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) conducted an on-site visit to Pázmány Péter Catholic University. During the visit, the Committee learned about the University’s activities through a series of thematic sessions. The Fraknói Research Group was represented in the session devoted to research at Pázmány, in which Viktor Kanász presented the Group’s activities, with particular emphasis on its contribution to the training and development of the next generation of researchers.

He highlighted that, for more than a decade, the Research Group has organised a summer academy for interested students, provided language and palaeographical training, and hosted lectures and seminars featuring distinguished international speakers. Students are also given opportunities to participate in research, undertake research visits to Rome, and publish their work.

Kanász also noted that many members of the Research Group began their academic studies at Pázmány. Several have since completed their doctoral degrees, while others have attained the DSc degree, demonstrating the opportunities for professional development and academic advancement that the Research Group offers.

On the occasion of the visit, he also presented the Chair of the Accreditation Committee with a copy of the Fraknói Memorial Volume, which includes contributions by leading scholars as well as studies by students of Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

A summary report was also prepared for the MAB visit, outlining the Research Group’s activities in this area and its self-assessment.
