The principal international partners involved in the individual research projects include: the Università della Tuscia (Prof. Matteo Sanfilippo, Prof. Alessandro Boccolini), the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Romani (Prof. Gaetano Platania), the University of Vienna (Institut für Historische Theologie, Prof. Rupert Klieber), the Pontifical Gregorian University (Facoltà di Storia e Beni Culturali della Chiesa: Prof. Roberto Regoli, Prof. Silvano Giordano), the Deutsches Historisches Institut in Rom (Prof. Alexander Koller, Prof. Andreas Rehberg), the Università Pontificia della Santa Croce (Prof. Carlo Pioppi, Prof. Johannes Grohe), the Römisches Institut der Görres Gesellschaft (Prof. Stephan Heid), the Gesellschaft für Konziliengeschichtsforschung, the Istituto Storico Austriaco a Roma (Prof. Andreas Gottsmann), Istituto Giuridico Claretiano, Pontificio Comitato di Scienze Storiche, and, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (Christine Maria Grafinger) in a particularly prominent and comprehensive role, the Archivio Apostolico Vaticano (H.E. Mons. Sergio Pagano).
The permanent publisher of the Fraknói Research Group’s international publications is Casa Editrice Sette Città (Viterbo); in the case of the Bischofslexikon, the publisher is Duncker & Humblot (Berlin).
In addition to its international partners, the Research Group involves numerous colleagues from Hungarian research institutions, including academic, university, ecclesiastical, and public collections. A strategic cooperation partner is the Moravcsik Gyula Institute, whose Hungarica Department has constituted a new pillar of systematic Vatican source research since 2020 and has served as a professional co-publisher of the Collectanea Vaticana Hungariae (CVH) series since 2022. Beyond the mutually coordinated tasks of basic research, the partners also collaborate closely in disseminating and popularising research results across various platforms, including the Fraknói Research Group’s website and social media channels. From 2025 onward, the Department of History of the Collegium Professorum Hungarorum has likewise played a key role in the work of the Research Group and in the publication of the CVH series.
We maintain particularly close institutional cooperation with the Hungarian Historical Institute in Vienna (Bécsi Magyar Történeti Intézet) and the Hungarian Archival Delegation in Vienna (Bécsi Magyar Levéltári Kirendeltség). Their publication series (Publikationen der Ungarischen Geschichtsforschung in Wien, PUGiW) was established in 2009 on the methodological and conceptual basis of the CVH, at the initiative of István Fazekas and Péter Tusor. The Research Group has also participated in several academic and university-based OTKA research projects (K 81 430, NK 83 799, K 81 948, etc.), and, in line with the objectives of the Lendület programme, has made use of OTKA funding for its research activities (NN 82 307).
In the field of Vatican research, the Group cooperates with the Greek Catholic Heritage Research Group (Görögkatolikus Örökség Kutatócsoport) in Nyíregyháza; in the exploration of Italian Hungarica, with the Vestigia Research Group of PPKE (PPKE Vestigia Kutatócsoport); in researcher training, with the András Kubinyi Historians’ Workshop of PPKE (PPKE Kubinyi András Történész Műhely); and, in the area of public outreach and scholarly communication, with Újkor.hu
Within the broader academic and funded research network, our principal consultative partners are the HAS–ELTE–PPKE Research Group for Classical Studies (MTA-ELTE-PPKE Ókortudományi Kutatócsoport), the HAS–PPKE Research Group for Baroque Literature and Spirituality (MTA-PPKE Barokk Irodalom és Lelkiség Kutatócsoport), and the MTA-HIM-SzTE-MOL Magyar Medievisztikai Kutatócsoport (listed separately under “Cooperating Partners”). The operation of the Research Group is further supported by academic and research-management institutions, including the Office of Supported Research Groups of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA Támogatott Kutatócsoportok Irodája), the Secretariat of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Department for Research Institutes (MTA Titkárság, Kutatóintézeti Főosztály), and their legal successors operating under new names since 2019/2022, as well as the ELKH.
