I collegi per stranieri a/e Roma nell’ età moderna. I: Cinque-Settecento

Alessandro Boccolni–Matteo Sanfilippo–Péter Tusor

The volume was published as a joint scholarly edition of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Romani (INSR), the Università della Tuscia, CeSPoM, and the Fraknói Research Group. It contains the revised papers delivered at the international symposium I Collegi per stranieri a Roma nell’età moderna (Foreign Colleges in Rome in the Early Modern Period), held in Rome on the Aventine on 14 December 2022.

The contributors are Matteo Sanfilippo, Gaetano Platania, Giovanni Pizzorusso, Alessandro Boccolini, Jadranca Neralic, Maurice Whitehead, Karie Schultz, Matteo Binasco, Tamás Véghseő, and Péter Tusor. In addition to the English, Irish, and Scottish Colleges, particular emphasis is placed on Central and Eastern Europe, thanks to the German-Hungarian College and the various Polish/Ruthenian institutions. The panorama also includes the missionary training center, the Collegio Urbano di Propaganda Fide.

The methodological, conceptual, and substantive features and novelties of the volume are presented in a broad historiographical context by Matteo Sanfilippo (pp. 9–30: Collegi per gli stranieri a Roma: una introduzione storico-storiografica).
